CARIBBEAN RESEARCH WORKSHOP
The Heritage Library Division is hosting the Caribbean Research Workshop. Students from secondary schools throughout the country will be invited to participate in the workshop. This workshop will be held at the Heritage Library Division, Level 2, National Library Building, Corner Hart and Abercromby Streets, Port of Spain.
The purpose of the workshop is to give students an understanding of the vital role that libraries play in the research process. In addition to receiving information on the role and function of the Heritage Library Division, the students will be exposed to actual Caribbean resources at the Heritage library. Some of these resources include Amerindian photographs, 1962 Newspapers-Independence Day supplement, Rare Maps and Books, Posters and Oral history items including a Viey la Cou video and music by the late Lord Kitchener.
The students will be shown some secondary and tertiary sources of information including Handbooks and Bibliographies and Dictionaries. The students will be given demonstrations on NALIS’ Research Databases and an orientation to the Big Six Information Problem-Solving Approach by Michael B. Eisenberg/Robert Berkowitz, 1988. Students will also receive a package of Heritage Library materials consisting of brochures, book marks and programmes.
